Es Vedrà at sunset: boat, hike or guided tour?

Updated October 18, 2026 · 7 min read

Es Vedrà is the rock that stands in the sea off the south-west coast of Ibiza, 382 metres high, and one of the best-known views on the island. It is a nature reserve and you cannot go ashore, so every option is about where you watch it from. If the sunset is what you want, the Secret Sunset Tour with Es Vedrà and flamingos is the most-reviewed of the listings built around Es Vedrà at sunset: four hours, €109, rated 5.0, though with only 24 reviews so far. If you want to see the rock from the water and are not fixed on the sunset, the cheaper boats are better value.

Three ways to see it

From the sea. Boats reach the reserve from Sant Antoni and along the south-west coast. The Es Vedrà cruise from Sant Antoni costs €25 for three hours, with a swim stop, drinks and snacks. It has 385 reviews and a rating of 4.6, which makes it the cheapest way to see the rock up close. The four-hour catamaran cruise at €38.25 adds beaches, caves and the spot known as Atlantis, with a swim stop, and is rated 4.4 from 370 reviews. Neither listing says the boat sails at sunset, so read the departure time on the booking page before you pay.

From land. The viewpoint most people mean is near the Torre des Savinar watchtower, close to Cala d’Hort: a turn-off from the road, parking a short way along, and then a short walk. That is free and needs no booking, but it is also where everyone else goes at sunset in summer. Arrive early.

On a guided tour. Several listings end at the viewpoint. The Land Rover Defender highlights tour runs 6.5 hours at €97.50 through Es Cubells, Es Vedrà, Cala Tarida and a coastal cave, and finishes with the sunset at Cala Comte. The half-day photo tour is four hours at €95, visits Sa Caleta beach and the Es Vedrà viewpoint, and has 4.9 stars from 127 reviews.

The flamingo tour, honestly

The Secret Sunset Tour spends part of the afternoon at Ses Salines Natural Park in the south, where the listing says you will see flamingos, and ends at Es Vedrà. That puts the park and the rock at different ends of the island’s south, and part of the four hours is spent in the vehicle. Flamingos are birds, not a fixed attraction: how many are on the salt pans on a given day is chance. A rating of 5.0 from 24 reviews is encouraging but still a small sample.

Boat or viewpoint for the sunset

A boat gives you the rock itself, with the cliffs above you. The viewpoint gives you the classic photograph with the sun behind the rock, and no engine noise. At sunset the viewpoint is busy in summer, so a booked tour with a driver can save you the parking and the walk in the dusk. If you have your own transport and good shoes, the viewpoint is free.

The hike is the effortful way. The guided hike has no reviews yet, so there is no evidence for how hard it is. Ask for the distance and the fitness level on the booking page, and bring water. Paths on this coast can be rough, and a headlamp is needed if you walk back after dark.

Our choice

  • For the sunset itself: the Secret Sunset Tour, with the caveat of few reviews.
  • For the best value on the water: the €25 cruise from Sant Antoni, once you have checked the departure time.
  • For a long day in the south-west: the Land Rover tour.
  • On a budget with a car: the viewpoint near Torre des Savinar, early.

More evening trips on the water are on the sunset boat trips page, and the boat trips page lists all cruises.
